Glasses with Android XR
Design the System UI for a new Android platform and new form factor at the convergence of AR and AI.

Due to the highly confidential nature of this work, this case study shares only publicly available information, anonymized details, and my general design approach to adhere to non-disclosure agreements.
The goal of this work is to translate emerging technology into intuitive and robust user experiences, prioritizing meaningful, all-day value while keenly respecting user attention and field of view. Concurrently, it involves building a beautiful, custom interface to establish itself as a scalable, extensible reference platform for future XR development and future partners.
My Role: I joined as a contractor on the SysUI team during a formative stage. I’ve had the opportunity to shape foundational SystemUI experiences by leveraging strategic thinking — navigating ambiguity, clarifying product intent, and establishing robust design frameworks. I defined key system elements and interaction patterns, detailing comprehensive visual, product, and systemic experiences for a user’s all-day experience. Collaborating closely with designers, UX engineers, and researchers, I ensure novel solutions are cohesive, feasible, and user-centered. Accountable for core interaction systems and, working side-by-side with my lead, I drove end-to-end design for SystemUI features, ensuring cross-functional and key partner alignment.

My approach to design emphasizes translating ambiguity into clear, actionable solutions through collaborative ideation and iterative prototyping. I believe in a systematic, hands-on process for refining complex interactions by continuously building and testing. Due to confidentiality, the visuals in this section are blurred, but they illustrate my method for problem-solving and driving design forward in partnership with cross-functional teams.

Early spatial explorations for system surfaces and mental models

Testing early UI together on devices

Holistic system maps (anonymized for confidentiality) — I initiated and maintain these UX maps to assist with internal and partner collaboration, consistency, and communication.

UX Intent prototyping — As we explore the system opportunities, I would own Figma prototyping of theses system-level experiences. They assist in gaining broader team alignment and leadership approvals, and are used for reference when developing.
Working alongside this incredible (and growing) team has been an exceptionally rewarding and inspiring journey to date. Together, we’re navigating complex challenges and continually pushing the boundaries of AR interaction design to create truly groundbreaking experiences.
